SPEED
The overall running gate of your network.

Latency and bottlenecks are the bane of the network administrator. They come in so many categories, technologies, and protocols, that it is virtually impossible to stay on top of them and continue to deal with normal networking daily activities.

The speed of any network is not related to just its bandwidth as much as it is a combination of bandwidth, capability, and technology. Speed is pretty much where you are now, and what is happening to you now. Speed is not something you can crank up, most every network is running at full speed already, however Marloe Group has designed and installed networks that run consistently at full speed and at 20% of capacity, with well over 150 active users. How is this accomplished?

That is where Marloe Group fits in.

Understanding network performance is how Marloe Group got its start in the computer service industry. Marloe has worked with government agencies, VARs and resellers in troubleshooting, design and implementation of Ethernet networks.

Now Marloe Group can work for you.

Marloe Group has developed solutions for all kinds of networks over the years, and several methodologies have began to surface that require a certain expertise to master. Marloe Group has developed a process to define those performance issues and solve the problems that are unique to each subset of network technology.
We are experts in performance solutions
from small networks to large, from small businesses to big.

To determine your network speed, it is not just a matter of looking at the network switches. There are three primary areas that directly affect your network speed. It is just as important to know what types of traffic you will be putting on the network. Each of these types of traffic require their own protocols and may adversely effect the others.

It is important to get a grasp of what the network is doing, and before there is an investment in time and dollars spent analyzing your network traffic you can get a quick idea by examining your users. They tend to fall into these categories:

Average Users

The average user is bursty. Most files such as Microsoft Word and Excel, are small, but are loaded over the network at once. This traffic by itself is not a problem, nor has it required special network design. Some of these files however get very large due to graphical content. When a user requests these items from the server, there is a quick spike in network traffic.

Video, Voice over IP, Conferencing

These kinds of traffic require their own protocols, and cannot be interrupted, much like a marathon runner.  They have to be prepared, they are not as bursty as they are constant and they effect network performance on a more grand scale. If you have ever run a marathon before you will understand that it is a long process, and the other types of traffic can interfere with your performance. It is logistically difficult to keep these types of traffic isolated without the proper expertise and technology.

Internet and SQL

Structured Query Language or SQL is designed like HTML or WEB traffic. Small bits of data are sent to the workstations where it is assembled by a client such as an internet browser. This traffic, since it is small and comes in small packages, is handled the opposite of video traffic. The small pieces do not easily fit into the packets of video conferencing protocols and will cause jitter and drop outs. Slow SQL responses look like the signs of poor network connections, much like browsing the internet when connections are interrupted.

Creating Solutions

Physically, there are three primary areas that directly affect your speed.  These items you have direct control over:

Infrastructure

What does your network look like without any hubs or switches? The patch panels, the connectors and the cabling must all be fit for duty, and must be rated at the same performance specifications. Small parts of your network with a lower rating, create jitter, collisions and effect the caching of your switches.

Hardware

What types of devices have you chosen for your network? Backbone Switches are essential for primary traffic, but what about everything else, from the hubs to network cards in your workstations, from printers to wireless devices. Have they been designed strategically into the network or randomly attached?

Design

How well has the network been designed? Documentation is the key and will tell you how professionally it has been done. Are the cable runs documented, as well as the endpoints? Does your IT department have policies and procedures in place that facilitate future expansion or will the next installation have a new numbering scheme and different switches and hubs? Is the network designed to handle the whole building from one room? Is that reasonable with distance limitations or should there be another distribution point.

These facets of proper network design are why people call Marloe Group.

Network resellers and even large computer manufacturers in Houston have required our expertise from time to time. We work with your IT guys as well as other companies to provide solutions that work and are successful.

How can we help?
Experience - Our expertise has been called upon by the U.S. State Department as well as Banks and Computer Manufacturers based in Houston.

FSDM - Our methodology for IT has been built up from 20 years of computer networking experience, and what makes us different is we wrote it all down.

Managed Services - Our solution will allow you to manage your business while we take care of the tools that make your business run. Our experience guarantees your IT department will be a better more responsible department. Our policies and procedures give you tools to see what is really going on.

Documentation - We document our work, and your network. If things go bad and you have to evacuate the building, there are procedures for shut down, for evacuating equipment, and protecting data, written so that anyone can figure it out. Minimize your risk, call Marloe Group today.
